Hello, My name is Kanishka Raffel When I was twenty one I went on a holiday with a school friend of mine and one evening when we were having a conversation, I asked what it meant for him to be a Christian. He said and I remember it very clearly, that he had lost control of his life to Jesus Christ. It was a very unusual answer but for me it was unbelievable.
I had been raised in a Buddhist family and for me, control of one's thoughts, actions, everything really, was absolutely vital because every action, thought, feeling had a consequence either for good or for bad and here was a friend of mine saying he had given away control of his life and to a man who had been dead for two thousand years, Jesus Christ.
Well my friend gave me a portion of the bible to read, the life of Jesus as told by His friend John and as I read John's gospel as it was called, I was surprised by Jesus. I was impressed by Jesus and He intrigued me. I noticed in Jesus own day people divided between a couple of camps, they were either for Him or against Him, I knew I was against Him but I did not really know why. Eventually I saw that Jesus was offering me forgiveness and a new relationship with God, that He was for me and it did not really make any sense to me to be against Him.
That's when I became a Christian and since then, that was about fifteen years ago, I have discovered what it means. I have discovered the challenge and the Joy of living with Jesus Christ in control of my life.
